Who doesn’t like a Spaghetti Dinner, especially when the culinary experience will benefit deserving Gold Star Families (A Gold Star Family is a family that has lost someone in the service of the country). That is precisely the opportunity offered from 5 to 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, at McHenry Moose Lodge #691, 3535 N. Richmond Road (Rte. 31), Johnsburg.
“We’ve held this event for several years now,” said Sandy Barcus, the founder of Collier House, the organization with a cabin in Wyoming where Gold Star Families can get away and begin the healing process after losing a member of their family. “We have live music by Suzy and the Qs. And, the St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy Silver Rifles Drill Team will do a presentation. Both are incredible.”
Collier House was founded in honor of Collier Barcus, Sandy’s son who was killed by enemy action on July 8, 2004, in Iraq.
“The cabin in Wyoming provides a safe and nurturing retreat for families in crisis,” said Sandy Barcus. “Donations from the fundraiser will help offset operational expenses for Collier House.”
Women of the Moose Chapter #1348 are providing the spaghetti. The cost is $15 for adults, $10 for children 4-9, and free for children 3 and under.
